Message from the Principal . . . .
I write this message with a great deal of pride for our students and staff. It's a tremendous feeling to see the wonderful community service and fundraising work that our young people are doing to help the less fortunate in our community. Mrs. Croll and Mrs. Meredith, along with The National Junior Honor Society, are coordinating our annual food drive from December 3 through December 14. Food collected by students and staff will be distributed by the YWCA for the benefit of needy families in Clermont County. Ms. Martin is conducting a "Penny War" amongst the 7th grade teams. Money will be used to help GEMS families as well as local organizations. Team 8-2 has been wrapping shoeboxes for thw YWCA. Please encourage your child to participate in these worthwhile ventures.

Glen Este Middle will dismiss at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5 for staff development activities. Bus service will run but no lunch will be served on that day.
Holiday Food Drive The
GEMS annual food drive, sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society, will run
December 3 through December 14. Students and staff are collecting non-perishable foods, canned goods, personal hygiene items, batteries, and paper products for the Clermont County YWCA. All donations will stay in our community to help families in need this holiday season. Students should take all donations to their first period class.
Team 8-2 News Team 8-2 has wrapped 65 shoe boxes to be donated to the YWCA in Batavia! The YWCA provides toys and gifts to families in need during the holiday season. Parents "shop" at the center, then their gifts are placed in the nicely-wrapped boxes donated by our students. Thanks to everyone who donated shoe boxes for this wonderful cause.

Yearbook Sales What is the one thing that people treasure and keep forever from their school days? A yearbook! Students have received order forms for our 2001-02 yearbook. The cost is
$16 or $17.25 with the ZOOM insert. ZOOM is a color insert which reflects on events from the past year. The publication also has a place for students to record their favorite memories. Hurry and place your order - the cost will increase to $18 and $19 after Friday, December 14. Please make checks payable to Glen Este Middle School. Yearbooks will be delivered in May 2002.

Builder's Club Kiwanis Club
Community Representative, Mr. Richard Lahke, recently presented Glen Este Middle School's advisor, Mr. Sam
Volpenhein, with the Builder's Club bell and gavel for use during meetings. The bell and gavel are inscribed with "Glen Este Middle School" and the Kiwanis symbol. The Builder's Club is represented by a group from each grade level, meeting twice a month. We appreciate Mr. Lahke's commitment and dedication to our students' community involvement. Currently, students are working on the Ohio District Disaster Relief Fund. Recently, the
8th Grade Builder's Club collected $138 to donate to the Afghan Children's Relief Fund. The
7th Grade Builder's Club has elected Nishat Hossain as President and
Erin Phelps as secretary for this school year.
